Adden Furniture has many years of experience producing eco-friendly case goods and seating specializing in solid hardwoods. These solid hardwoods from certified forests are recognized as one of the most sustainable and well managed of all materials used in furniture manufacturing. Over 90% of forests are privately owned and managed and farmers have consistently put back more than 1% annually over the past forty-five years. And best of all, solid wood has one of the longest life cycles of any furniture material.

The essence of environmental responsibility is conservation. It’s about using less stuff.  Metal is recyclable, but consumes energy and produces carbon emissions in the process. Laminate, while made of recycled material, is not a recyclable product.  Adden solid wood furniture is easy to repair and restore and can be revived to a second life without the inevitable carbon emissions associated with recycling. By all accounts, reuse is preferred to recycling and many of our customers have adopted the practice of incorporating high quality furniture and seating throughout their residence halls and public areas. 

Adden offers both Forest Stewardship Council and Sustainable Forestry Initiative certified wood with Chain of Custody Certification for both room furniture and seating.  Adden also offers soy-based foams and 100% recycled fabrics and all Adden bed springs are produced from recycled railroad tracks. Adden manufactures in a plant that produces emissions so low it qualifies as exempt from state EPA emissions certification. Adden utilizes flat-line finishing which produces no VOC emissions at time of manufacture and for life of the product. All run-offs from the finishing process is reclaimed, filtered and reused so there is no waste.  Adden uses water based foam and wood adhesives which also produce no VOCs at time of manufacture and for life of the product. And lastly, all sawdust and scrap produced in manufacturing is collected and used to power Adden’s boiler system for plant-wide energy requirements.
